Special guest at Selston

Selston High School welcomed Paralympian and TV presenter Ade Adepitan as their guest of honour at its annual achievement evening.

Sixty-five students received awards for both attainment and effort alongside special awards.

Ade, pictured with headteacher Kevin Gaiderman, spoke about his wheelchair basketball career and overcoming adversity to achieve goals.

The special awards he presented on the night included team of the year to the Year 9 Football team, Victor and Victrix Ludorum Athletics Awards, the Contribution to Selston High School award to Kenneth Wilkinson, who retires after 40 years’ service at the school) and Student of the Year, to Lucy Lesport-Hall.

Ade remained at school late into the evening providing autographs to students and giving them an opportunity to take photos with him.
