Star joins academy students

Samworth Church Academy was joined by special guest speaker Olympic Cyclist Bryan Steel for its annual speech night celebrations.

In front of an audience of 500 people eighty awards were handed out to students who have made a special contribution to their school work or academy life.

Entertainment included music by Samworth Church Academy Choir and musicians, a performance by the Academy’s own Destination Dance and a special appearance by professional dancers from Nottingham’s Ampersandance.

Bryan Steel, the guest speaker on the night, told the audience how he became an Olympic medallist and had a powerful message for the students.

He said: “I am a firm believer that every young person has a talent, maybe not in the Olympic Games and maybe not in sport. A prime example is the talent that we have seen this evening.”

Among those recognised on the evening was Year 11 student Rebecca Hallam with Student of the Year and Samworth Cup winner.
