CALLING anyone who was a member of the 48th Nottingham (Highbury School, Bulwell) Scout group in the 1950s and 1960s.

Given sufficient support, a reunion of men who come in this category is proposed.

Co-organiser Ernie Meads says: “We are trying to get in touch with as many former members of the group as possible from that era.

“We hope to hold the event some time in October at a venue to be arranged. It all depends on how many ex-members we can trace.”

Contact has so far been made with 10 past members. They include ex-leader Ken Jones, who started the group some time in the early 1950s.

“Ken now lives in Norfolk,” says Ernie. “He is well into his eighties but is still very mobile.”

The group originally met at the former Highbury Boys’ School on the old Albert Street, Bulwell, and later moved to the town’s Cantrell Primary School.

Its present venue is the hall of St Mary’s Church on Highbury Road, Bulwell, and it is still going strong.

Anyone wishing to make inquiries about the proposed reunion is asked to get in touch with Ernie on 0115 9138474 or via his mobile number, 0791 780 7496, or his e-mail address, Alternately, John Daws can be contacted on 01623 473426 or by e-mail at
