Strong winds expected in Nottinghamshire this afternoon

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of winds up of 20mph to 30mph covering the Nottinghamshire area.

The winds are expected to start at 12pm to 3am and ease by the afternoon.

Councillor Glynn Gilfoyle, Chair of the County Council’s Community Safety Committee, said: “Although at this stage it appears Derbyshire will get the brunt of the strong winds in the East Midlands region, traffic disruption is possible in Nottinghamshire so residents should listen out for local traffic reports before leaving work or heading out for the school run this afternoon.”

The County Council is on stand-by and will be working with the emergency services and other organisations within the county to respond to disruption caused by high winds.

The Council’s Highways team will be out and about dealing with any fallen debris which might be causing a hazard on county roads.

Warning signs are up at Rufford Abbey and Sherwood Forest country parks to advise visitors to take care if there are high winds in the coming days if visiting the country parks, with staff on standby if the weather deteriorates.

The Met Office is advising residents to drive with care, especially on exposed routes and to be aware of possible debris being blown around.
