Student impresses on placement to land job

A work placement for a promising local student has landed him a job with one of the area’s top retailers.

Lewis Scott has been on placement at Beales Department Store located in Four Seasons Shopping Centre, Mansfield, whilst studying BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business at Vision West Notts College.

He so impressed bosses at the store, he was offered a permanent job there.

Gavin Lewis, Beales Department Store Manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer this service to the local students in Mansfield. Lewis is a fantastic example of how you can work your way up when starting in a temporary position.’

Lewis Scott added: “It means a great deal to have this job, I am able to continue with my education whilst earning a decent monthly wage and gain some industry experience in retail, I feel as though I am constantly evolving within the company and hope to continue to do so.

“It is also warming that the store director Gavin shows an interest in my progress and in me as an individual,

“Gavin often asks how my college studies are going and has recently ask me for my input and feedback on certain projects the store is working on.”

As well as Beales Department Store, Four Seasons Shopping Centre and other retailers located in the centre are looking to offer more valuable opportunities to local students in order to keep the younger generation in the town and grow Mansfield’s economy.

Rebekah O’Neill, Centre Manager at Four Seasons Shopping Centre, commented: “t’s great that our retailers are offering this opportunity to local students and we’re really excited to see fresh new talent making their mark within the retail industry. We hope to have a lot more interest in student work placements at the centre.”
