Sunflower competition is still growing

“It was wonderful to get such support from many people to run the competition,” said Dennis Mayoh, chairman of Welbeck Residents Association.

“Disappointingly there were a low number of entries on the day, but there will be a second chance for those who couldn’t make it, to get their FREE seeds, advice, pots and compost and enter the competition, at the ‘May Fair’ being held at Broomhill Junior School on 2nd May.”

Youngsters were invited to visit the Broomhill Inn on Good Friday to enter the competition.

“Thanks must go to the manufacturers and suppliers who generously donated the seeds, pots and compost for this event as well as The Broomhill Inn for the venue and Coun David Shaw for assisting the children with potting up,” added Mr Mayoh.

Judging will take place around mid September with a trophy and prize for the winner.

The group hope this will be one of many future events for the younger residents to enjoy.

“We have more things planned,” added Mr Mayoh. “We want to see greater participation and more people getting involved from all sections of the community so everyone can benefit.

“So don’t forget to check the Community Notice Board which is sited near the Broomhill Inn on Yew Tree Road for details of this and future events and meetings, like our Residents’ Coffee Morning on the 29thApril.”
