Rain fell for the first time in five years on the Fun on Bulwell Forest event - damping spirits on Saturday morning.
But when the sun came out so did the people and the actvity-packed fun day, which featured inflatable obstacle courses, bouncy castles and stalls, soon recovered in the afternoon.
Paul Bakajsa, chair of the event committee, said: “The first couple of hours were pretty miserable but when the sun came out the people came out. I don’t know what the numbers were but all the stalls told me they were busy for the two or three hours.
“I spent the whole day trying to hold down a gazebo to cover the PA system - which I had borrowed!”
The aim of the fun-day is to provide local families with a low-cost community event - so that ‘parents aren’t forever dipping into their pockets.’
It costs about a £1,000 to run the annual fun day and organisers are always searching for sponsorship.
This year’s event was given a hands-on boost by volunteers and Right Track social enterprise.
