Young Tayla Smith had more than seven inches of her long locks cut off by a hairdresser all in the name of charity.

Tayla (seven), a pupil at Hillside Primary, was inspired by pop star Jessie J who shaved her head to help raise awareness of the Little Princess Trust.

The charity takes donations of hair from the public and then turns it into wigs for children who have lost their hair through medical treatment.

Her proud mum, Jodie Smith, said: “She said she wanted to do it and has been asking about it for some time.

“We’re very proud of her for doing something so selfless.”

Family friend Kelly Stevenson wielded the shears last week. Tayla has so far raised over £420 in sponsorship, and her hair will be sent to the Little Princess charity to be made into a wig.
