‘Tell Us Once’ service aims to relieve stress

A NEW service has been launched to make life easier for bereaved families and new parents in the Hucknall and Bulwell area.

The ‘Tell Us Once’ initiative means that when someone registers a birth or death at a Nottingham City Council or Notts County Council register office, government and council services will be notified about the change at the same time.

With permission, the service notifies various service-organisations on the family’s behalf. This saves precious time and relieves the stress of having to contact these bodies individually.

More than 20 services will take part initially, including departments handling council tax, housing benefit, child benefit and State pensions, plus the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

The scheme will also offer help in completing official forms and will point bereaved families towards support services.

Coun Martin Suthers (Con), the county council’s lead member for customer service, said “Tell Us Once is a free service aimed at making life simpler and placing customers firmly at the heart of the service during stressful times in their lives.”
