Tidy award for council team

Ashfield District Council’s environmental services team were praised by council chiefs for work which has been recognised in a prestigious national award.

The council recently won a Keep Britain Tidy ‘Quality Improvement’ Award and the team behind the improvements were congratulated on their efforts at a full council meeting.

Council chairman, Coun Linford Gibbons, said that the award judges had been impressed by the effectiveness of changes made 18 months ago to merge street cleansing and grounds maintenance into multi-skilled environmental area teams.

This has not only improved the way the council works but also saved £150,000.

Paul Mitchell, representing the Sutton North, Central and East team, Tony Gundell, representing the Kirkby & Woodhouse team, Andy Fell, representing the Hucknall team and Steve Edwards representing the Rural and Sutton West team, were presented with certificates.

Coun Gibbons said: “This award is great credit to all those involved and on behalf of the council, I would like to pass on my thanks to the team for their continuing hard work in making Ashfield a cleaner and more attractive place to live, work and visit.”
