The current scheme ends on 31st March and information on how to sign up for the 2014-15 service will be sent to householders with their council tax bill in March.

Residents who already subscribe to the service will receive an invoice shortly, requesting payment and people who currently pay by direct debit will be notified of the date when payment will be taken.

Once payment has cleared, residents will be sent a sticker, which must be placed on the household brown bin.

Crews will not empty any bins, unless they are displaying a current sticker, the council said.

It can take up to 10 working days for the sticker to arrive once payment has been cleared, so the authority is asking that all payments be received by Friday 14th March.

Portfolio holder for the environment, Coun Philip Shields said: “We would encourage everyone to make use of this excellent Garden Waste Collection Service, which enables people to have their garden waste removed from their doorstep without the fuss and mess of going to the tip. The scheme means that residents can separate their compostable garden waste, which helps to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and reduces the amount of greenhouse gases produced.

“This is an all year-round service, which not only saves you time and effort, but contributes to the District’s recycling rate.”

If you do not already receive the service, but would like to sign up for 2014/2015, call 01623 463 463 or apply online at www.mansfield.gov.uk/gardenwaste.
