Tip-off hotline helps get more criminals off streets

THE TIP-off hotline Crimestoppers is leading to more criminals in Hucknall and Bulwell being arrested and charged, new figures have revealed.

The number of calls to the free and anonymous telephone service leapt by four per cent in Nottinghamshire between between April 2010 and March this year when compared with April 2009 to March 2010.

Arrests and charges, as a result of information received, went up by 43% when comparing the two time-frames.

Coun Glynn Gilfoyle (Lab), a member of Notts County Council and chairman of Nottinghamshire Crimestoppers, said: “A huge thankyou must go to the people of Nottinghamshire for using the charity to pass on information about crime. We are extremely proud that Crimestoppers continues to play such a vital role in helping to makeour local community a safer place to live.”
