Tonsilitis robs charity gig of star performer

SIXTEEN-year-old Bulwell singer Loretta Brown attended a prestigious charity show at the town's Bestwood Road Sports and Social Club – but she could not take part.

Sadly, Loretta was suffering from tonsilitis and she was "very disappointed" that she was unable to perform.

Loretta, of Hethersett Gardens, will be taking her GCSEs at Bulwell's River Leen Comprehensive School this year.

She is now an internationally-played artiste and has been greatly helped by the Nottingham-based Sharp Records youth development scheme.

Talented singers who did entertain at the show were Laura Cox, Lauren-Jade, Laura Hill, Omillie Budhand, Andrew Randell, Jodi Haynes, Katie Brisbane and Charlotte Wheatley in only her second gig.

The event raised 322 for seven-month-old Maddison Turton, of St Ann's, Nottingham, who suffers from the unusual condition plagiocephaly, otherwise known as flat-head syndrome.

Maddison was present at the event, together with her parents, Andrew (38) and Anita (35).

Andrew said he was delighted that the fundraising target of 2,000 needed to buy a special helmet for his daughter as part of her treatment had now been achieved.
