A former Chief Inspector, who is now bidding to be Nottinghamshire’s next Police and Crime Commissioner, has been taking his campaign to the streets of Bulwell to find out what the local issues are in the area.
Conservative Tony Harper talked to local residents and businesses about crime and safety issues in Bulwell after spending a morning on Main Street.
Among the issues raised in conversation was a rise in shop thefts in Bulwell.
Another issue which was raised was anti-social behaviour.
Mr Harper, who was born and bred in Hucknall, was selected as the Conservative candidate for May’s election in the autumn.
Tony Harper said: “I had a number of conversations with Bulwell residents about crime and safety in the area and it was interesting to find out what is concerning people.
“The recent spike in shop lifting was a particular worry and it is important that both local police and the community work together to defeat the problem.
“Some might think that this is low level stuff, but shop lifting can seriously damage local businesses which in turn can hit the economy.”
