Top tips from mums and dads across the region for new movers

Miller Homes Midlands is sharing a host of top homecare tips from mums and dads across the region.

To mark Mother’s Day, the award-winning housebuilder is encouraging residents and potential buyers to share their best-kept domestic secrets via social media and at sales centres across the region. These will then be passed on to first time buyers, who may be moving away from home for the first time.

Julia Portington, sales manager for Miller Homes Midlands, said: “After talking to the sales advisers and the construction teams on site, it soon became clear everyone has their own little tips to use in and around the home.

“Who better to advise the next generation of home owners than those mums and dads out there who have done it all already?

“This is a really fun way to share your knowledge with others and it’ll especially appeal to those about to move into their first home.

“We’ll be compiling them all together and adding them to the welcome pack for our first time buyers.”

From cooking to DIY, Julia and the rest of the team at Miller Homes have already started to share some of their handy tips for all occasions:

· You can easily extend the life in your kitchen sponges by simply placing them in the dishwasher alongside your pots and pans. Further to this, you can soak them in water with a bit of lemon juice then pop them in the microwave on full power for one minute. Be careful when you remove them though as they can get hot!

· Keep your stuffed peppers in the oven upright by placing them in a cupcake-baking tray – no mess and it won’t fall on its side!

· Make your potatoes last longer and prevent budding by simply adding an apple into the bag.

· When doing a spot of painting, say goodbye to unnecessary mess by placing a rubber band across a paint tin to catch the drips when you wipe your brush. You can also cover the paint tray in aluminium foil to make cleaning up a breeze!

· Sprinkle salt between paving slabs to get rid of those pesky weeds. Be careful not to sprinkle the plants you want to keep though.

· To prevent your eyes watering while chopping onions, wipe the chopping board with white vinegar. It’s odourless and won’t affect the taste of the onion. You can even buy some handy onion goggles to stop the tears.

Miller will be posting further tips on its Facebook and Twitter pages.
