On Monday, councillor Steve Calvert, vice-chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council’s transport and highways committee, Jonathan Falls, project manager for Carillion Tarmac, Mark Goslin, Tarmac general manager and Coun Kevin Greaves, chairman of the transport and highways committee met at Hucknall market place to mark the date with a ceremonial spade.

No works will be carried out on Thursday January 21 and Friday January 22, and contractors say access will be maintained at all times via diversions and vehicle marshalls.

The whole scheme, which will see sections of the High Street pedestrianised and the introduction of new roads and junctions to reduce congestion in the town, is expected to be completed by January of next year.
