Town’s new gateway development to open

Mayor Tony Egginton is set to cut the ribbon on Mansfield’s new £2.4m gateway building later this week.

The formal opening of the new Queen’s Place eco-building on Thursday marks the culmination of more than a decade’s hard work to regenerate the town centre.

The development will see the creation of two new retail units and six offices on Queen Street between Mansfield’s new transport interchange and the market square.

Queen’s Place was funded by £867,567 from the East Midlands European Regional Development Fund and £1.92m from the district council’s capital fund.

Head of regeneration Mike Robinson said: “We set out a vision to improve the look, feel and offer in Mansfield and we have done just that.

“Queen’s Place is the crowning glory in our regeneration strategy.”

Sarah Nelson from Mansfield BID added: “We have been working hard to get retailers and private investors to work together to offer what shoppers and visitors want.

“As a result of our combined efforts, Mansfield is a more vibrant, better and safer place to be.”

The new landmark has an A-rating for energy-efficiency, and should offer occupants low running costs, the council said.
