TRAFFIC ALERT: Major roads close after snow in Derbyshire

Motorists are being warned about closed roads and dangerous driving conditions after Derbyshire was hit by snow last night.

The A57 Snake Pass has been closed in both directions due to the heavy snow between Ladybower Reservoir and Hurst Road, Glossop.

The A53 Leek Road into Buxton is also closed due to the settlement of snow at the A54 Macclesfield Main Road.

Woodhead Pass was also closed for some time this morning due to a jackknifed lorry - but has now been reopened.

Drivers are also being warned about hazardous conditions on the A537 Cat & Fiddle Road going into Buxton.

Scattered wintry showers are expected to continue across the Derbyshire hills throughout the day.

A spokesman said: “Please be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions and some disruption.”
