Trampolining centre for Kirkby is given go-ahead

More than 30 jobs will be created in Kirkby after a leisure company was given the go-ahead to open a trampolining park.

Spot On Leisure Ltd has applied to open the facility at the Astra flooring and furniture premises, off Lowmoor Road.

Planners at Ashfield District Council agreed to planning permission, which has been welcomed by director Tom Shufflebottom.

He said: “It’s brilliant and we’re looking forward to getting to work.

“I suppose there’s always some doubt when you submit an application but we’re just pleased that we can get on.

Work will start in July and we’re looking to be open by October.”

More than 180 trampolines are to be used in the warehouse, which measures more than 30,000 sq ft.

There will also be dodge ball courts, basketball lanes, air bags, foam pits and a 200-seat cafe with viewing area .

Around 80 car parking spaces already exist outside of the building, which Spot On says is more than enough for the predicted demand.

The company, which is based in Hucknall, operates amusement arcades and children’s play areas and has pool and snooker clubs in Hucknall and Mansfield Woodhouse.

The trampoline park will be the first company under its new name, Freestyle Trampoline Parks Ltd.

It will be open from 9am to 10pm five days a week, and remain open until 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

As part of the company’s application, they outlined no fewer than 15 other sites they considered before opting for the Astra site, although most were either too small or had ceilings too low.

Meanwhile, Astra has said it will remain open until the autumn and then re-locate.

Company director Steve Pearson said they are currently looking at premises in the area and are hoping to finalise a deal soon, but says there will be ‘no break in trade’.
