Tree planted to mark the centenary of the First World War and 40 years of Ashfield District Council
Past chairmen and civic guests joined the chairman of Ashfield District Council and currently serving elected members to mark the anniversaries on Monday August 4th.
The Rev Wendy Patchell of St. Wilfred’s Church, Kirkby, held a short service of thanksgiving followed by the planting of a beech tree.

Hide AdThe tree planting was a memorable moment as it brought together some of the Council’s past chairmen alongside the current chairman, Coun Elizabeth Mays and civic guests from across the County.
Coun Mays said: “It was an honour to be part of this special day and to give thought to the millions of lives, both military and civilian, who were lost in the war.
“It was also wonderful to see so many past chairmen come back to the Council and be part of the day.”
