Trees mark centenary of Duke’s gift

Two black walnut trees have been planted to start Yeoman Hill Park’s centenary celebrations.

They mark 100 years since the sixth Duke of Portland gifted the park to the people of Mansfield Woodhouse.

The gesture was made to celebrate the Duke’s silver wedding anniversary and the 21st birthday of his son.

Several other centenary year events are planned including a summer party in the park, a photographic competition and a library exhibition.

The park has benefited from £30,000 of recent improvements and been awarded Green Flag status.
