The southbound carriageway of the M1 between J27 for Annesley and J28 for Alfreton has been closed off following the collision.

Highways England has put a symbol-led diversion in place until the incident is cleared up.

Motorists are being advised to exit the motorway at J28 to follow the A38 (south west) to the junction with the A610 and then follow this road to the south east.

They will then be able to rejoin the motorway at Junction 26.

The Northbound carriageway was also blocked due to an emergency air ambulance landing, but is now re-open.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Constabulary said the motorway may have to be closed for a period of time.
