Vaccination amnesty for pets during recession

A RECESSION-busting initiative is being backed by a vet’s surgery in Hucknall to help owners keep pets healthy amid strains on household budgets.

Throughout May, the Orchard Veterinary Centre on Vine Terrace is joining the national vaccination amnesty.

The amnesty offers a discount on vaccinations for cats, dogs and rabbits in the hope that owners will not be tempted to cut back on lifesaving healthcare for their animals.

The initiative aims to halt a decline in vaccination rates for pets since the start of the economic downturn.

Daniella McCready, clinical director at Orchard, said: “Vaccination is a simple way to protect your pets from serious and potentially fatal infectious diseases.

“Signs that owners have cut back and are not vaccinating their animals is very worrying.

“At the same time, some killer diseases are on the increase.”
