Valley views for rambling club

There will be an opportunity to get out to the scenic Peak District and the Derwent Valley at the next walk organised by Sutton Rambling Club.

On Sunday 17th August the Sutton Rambling Club continues its fortnightly rambles programme with a 13-mile linear walk in the White Peak.

Highlights will include heather in full bloom on Stanton Moor,the Nine Ladies Stone Circle and the Derwent Valley Heritage Way. A shorter afternoon option will be available taking a quick route back to Matlock from Darley Dale.

The walk will start from Winster, head north to Birchover with mid morning break on Birchover Edge and onwards to Rowsley for lunch via Stanton Moor and the stone circle. A variety of lunchtime refreshments is available at the nearby Peak Village.

The afternoon walk will turn south and follow the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (the old Peak Railway Line) down to Darley Dale where the short route to Matlock can be taken. The main walk continues uphill via Oaker Hill and Snittertion to the famous Heights of Abraham finishing at the Matlock Coach Station for a 6.15 pm coach departure home.

The McEwens/Skills coach leaves the Staff Of Life pub on Hack Lane in Sutton at 9.15am and at the Bancroft Lane end of Stockwell Gate (near the Asda supermarket) in Mansfield at 9.30am. There are other pick up points between these locations.
