Veteran councillorto step down
Coun Lonergan (pictured) has announced he will not contest the county council election on Thursday June 4.
The 74-year-old married father-of-three says he has decided to retire because he is “too old”.

Hide AdCoun Lonergan told the annual parish meeting of Bestwood Parish Council: “I’ve made lots of colleagues and think I have made a lot of friends.
“I suppose I’m a little bit sad that I am having to say goodbye.”
Coun Lonergan is a governor at Bestwood Village’s Hawthorne Primary School and was awarded an MBE in 1994.
Coun Denis Beeston, chairman of Bestwood Parish Council, said: “I wish Joe all the best in his retirement.
“We have worked hard together and whenever I have needed Joe, he has always come running.”
