VIDEO: Hundreds turn out for walk in memory of Amber Peat

Hundred of mourners joined a procession this evening in memory of Amber Peat, and to help raise money for her funeral.

It was thought that up to 500 people joined the walk, which started on Bosworth Street, where Amber had lived, to the site of where her body was found on Westfield Lane less than a mile away.

Once at the site, people were encouraged to light candles in memory of the 13-year-old, who was found hanged in bushes next to a path, while a poem was read out.

Danielle Blount, who helped lead the walk and who read the poem to the sombre crowd, told Chad: “It’s unbelievable how many people have turned out.

“We ere expecting around 200, but there must be 500 people here.”

Also helping lead the walk was Wendy Clayton, of nearby Byron Street, who added: “Everybody is just grieving for this little who we did not know, everybody is really pulling together.

“There are so many families from different backgrounds who are all just pulling together.”

Yvonne Brazier, who is from Church Warsop and knew Amber when she attended Church Warsop Primary between 2008 and 2011, said: “We helped with the searching, I knew Amber but I would have got involved anyway.

“This has been amazing, there has been such a good turnout. The family is going to need the help.”

Another woman, who came from Sutton for the walk, but did not want to be named, said: “I think this is lovely for the community to do this. People are still in shock, everyone thought they would find her alive and it’s just very sad that it ended this way.”

People were being asked to donate a £1 to help with the funeral costs, and the collection buckets are being returned to The Ladybrook pub tonight where the cash will be counted.
