Video: Olive,104, puts her age down to working hard

Olive Bestwick has just turned 104 but she looks closer t0 70. According to Olive, the secret of reaching the ripe old age is working hard and never smoking. But it would appear good genes run in Olive’s family. Her mother lived to 103 and she has two brothers Derek (90) and Vern (97). The 104-year-old said one of her happiest moments was her surprise at giving birth to her twin daughters an hour apart.

She said: “When I was giving birth I had no idea that I was expecting twins.I gave birth to Anne and an hour later Jill arrived, it was one of the happiest moments of my life.”

Olive was taken on as the very first seamstress at Pretty Pollymaking hoisery where she later met her late husband Hedley. The couple then married when Olive was 26 and after having children they brought a newsagents.

She added: “We brought Bestwick’s newsagents and absolutely loved running the shop, it was hard work but we loved it.”
