VIDEO: Residents evacuated after arsonists set Mansfield house on fire

Residents were evacuated from their homes after arsonists caused a Mansfield terraced house to go up in flames.

Three people were taken to hospital after the blaze broke out on the first floor of the house on Goldsmith Street.

Firefighters from the Mansfield and Ashfield stations used four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets to tackle the fire.

Three people were taken to King’s Mill Hospital for precautionary checks, but sustained no serious injuries.

Next-door neighbours were evacuated and more than 20 other residents came out to see what the disturbance was about.

Residents have also reported that a woman was seen shouting to the fire service that her children were inside the burning house.

Andy Gudelajtis, 55, lives opposite the house and saw the events unfold.

He said: “A lady came screaming down the road making a lot of noise and shouting that her children were inside.

“I could just see a lot of smoke coming out through the front door and the window.

“But the fire brigade were brilliant and got everybody out as fast as they could.”

Another man, who also lives on Goldsmith Street, also witnessed the events.

He said: “There was a lot of smoke and it must have been really scary for those who were involved.

“But at least everybody got out alright.”

The fire is now being investigated by the police, as it is believed to have been started deliberately.

A spokesman for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: “A fire investigation has been concluded into the fire and it looks to have most probably been deliberate.

“The police are taking it further.”

The fire took place at around 4.30pm on Sunday, December 20.
