VIDEO: Top riders launch controversial skatepark

Expert riders and skateboarders put a new skate park through its paces when it was officially opened.

And the £100,000 project , built at Edwinstowe’s Friars Park, saw scores of local youngsters jump on their bikes and scooters to try it out too.

The park has been funded jointly by Nottinghamshire County Council’s Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) and Edwinstowe Parish Council.

Coun John Peck, who sits on both councils, said: “The new skate park is a first-class facility that provides challenges for users of all ages and abilities.

“It is a very welcome addition to the local area and I am delighted that young people in Edwinstowe have this brand-new facility to use and enjoy.

“It is always good news when county and parish councils can work together to deliver much needed facilities for the whole community.

“The skate park has been extremely well used so far and is a real bonus facility for our village.”

But the skate park has already been criticised already by residents living nearby.

Chris Hutchinson said: “I appreciate they need somewhere to play but the noise is horrendous.

“It’s seven days a week and random times day or night.

“It’s not a dig at the youngsters, I can understand their need, but in my mind it was built in totally the wrong place.”

There have also been concerns about littering and anti-social behaviour around the site.
