Video: Tragic Blidworth lads remembered by old school friend

A friend of two young Blidworth lads tragically killed in a car crash has described them as cheeky and hilarious.

Guy Bennett (19) and Adam Smith (18) died at the scene when the Fiat Punto they were travelling in together was in a collision with a Transit van on Main Road, Ravenshead, on 1st December.

Bethanie Ullyet (17), of Thorney Abbey Road, Blidworth, told Chad about her friendship with the two ex-Joseph Whitaker School students.

“Of all people you would never have guessed this would have happened these two - they did not deserve it at all,” said Bethanie.

“I have grown up knowing them since Year 7 at school, although they were in the year above,” she said.

“Adam was always very cheeky. He was not loud but very laid-back.

“He worked for my grandad as a landscape gardener and I remember him always pipping me in his car when he went past the bus stop.”

Bethanie remembered Guy as ‘naughty and mischievous.’

“He was the best friend you could ever meet,” she said.

“You could not go out on a night without him doing something stupid or leaving us with something so funny.

“That is just how he was. He loved his Xbox too and was always plugged into it.”

Bethanie said friends of the two best mates were now focusing on raising money in their memories.

A mass head shave was held at Blidworth Recreation Ground, off Sherwood Avenue, on Saturday and a fundraising football match is set to take place at Joseph Whitaker School on 17th December.

She added: “These last few days no-one has wanted to be on their own - we have all been sitting together in the Welfare laughing one minute and crying the next.

“Nobody knows what to do so we are focusing on fundraising rather than thinking about them being gone.”
