Walkers needed to help Party in Park

Alfreton folk are being called on to take part in the Alfreton Party in the Park eight mile sponsored walk.

The walk is held to raise funds for the event which is set for 13th April.

This year’s event goes from the Waggon & Horses pub, Alfreton, at 11am then takes in the grounds of St Martins church, onto Brackenfield and through Wessington and South Wingfield, where it follows in line with the Derby to Sheffield rail line into Oakerthorpe.

Walkers will be guided by stewards through the quiet, secluded, countryside of the northern section of Amber Valley and will include areas of well known local history, some dating back to Roman times.

Organiser Chris Bexton said: “The walk plays a big part in the community and numbers have really built up steadily over the years.

“We alter the route every year so it takes in different parts of the countryside. It gets people out and about and it is a really good atmosphere.”

The finish line for this year’s  charity event is Oakerthorpes Amber Hotel, where the arrivals will be rewarded with a barbecue and live music from Redwood Acoustic.

Walkers can opt to raise money for their own charity causes, or simply make a donation of £5 if they cannot take part in the walk.
