NAMES of brave soldiers from Bulwell and Basford who gave their lives fighting in the First and Second World Wars have been returned to the spotlight after laying hidden for years.
For two plaques, which were discovered in the basement of the former Basford Social Club and feature the names of more than 170 war heroes, have now been given a prominent position at St Mary’s Church in Bulwell.
An emotional re-dedication ceremony was held at the church on Highbury Road — after an armed forces march from the nearby Tesco superstore on Jennison Street.
Special guests included the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Coun Michael Wildgust (Lab), and the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire, Col Roger Merryweather. Among the audience were relatives of the men and women mentioned on the plaques.
