Weapon may be hidden in woodland

Detectives investigating the death of a South Normanton man have said new information may help them to find the murder weapon.

Derbyshire Police are investigating the murder of Daniel Baker and are appealing to the public for help.

Officers recently received information that the knife Mr Baker was killed with was in a clearing within woodland off Lea Vale, South Normanton, just beyond a wooden bridge that crosses a brook.

Police have conducted thorough searches of the area but the knife has not been found.

Since Mr Baker was murdered on 19th July, officers are asking anyone who may have found the knife since to come forward.

Detectives have also asked that if anyone discovers a knife in the area, they should contact police.

A map has been produced showing the area where police believe the knife to be, marked with an ‘x’, and can be found online at www.derbyshire.police.uk/News-and-Appeals/News/2013/December/05-Dec-Police-seek-public-help-in-finding-the-knife-used-to-murder-Daniel-Baker-in-South-Normanton

Leon Lockhart (31) and Michaela Griffiths (24), from South Normanton, have been charged with murdering the 32-year-old.

Miss Griffiths has also been charged with attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Anyone with information should contact Derbyshire Police on 101.
