WEATHER ALERT: Ice warning where snow has fallen across East Midlands

The Met Office is warning of icy stretches of road where snow has fallen across the East Midlands today (January 17).

Outbreaks of snow spread in places across the region last night, leaving it as deep as four centimetres in some parts of the region.

And whilst some areas were not affected by the snow, ice is likely to prove an additional hazard.

Today’s forecast suggests the residual patchy wintry precipitation will clear south and west with some bright or sunny intervals.

A cold, dry day in expected with light winds and sunny intervals. Highs of 1°C.

By tonight the Met Office expects it to stay mainly dry with light winds and variable cloud overnight.

This evening, clearer spells will allow a sharp frost to develop, perhaps with isolated freezing fog patches, and icy patches on untreated surface.

The Met Office warned of more frost, ice and frosty fog patches into Monday with widespread frost until Wednesday.

However, milder weather has been forecast for the end of the week.
