VILLAGERS in Newstead, Linby, Papplewick and Bestwood have lost their weekly wheelie-bin collections through the summer.
For the new ruling Labour group at Gedling Borough Council has scrapped the service. It had been introduced by the previous Conservative administration.
Bosses say the move will save £150,000, which can be ploughed into other initiatives, including providing two hours of free parking in town-centre car-parks.
The council launched the weekly emptying of wheelie-bins for general household rubbish for 12 weeks throughout the summer three years ago.
It was in response to complaints from residents about smelly bins and infestations of maggots caused by warm weather.
The policy will now revert to fortnightly emptying and fall into line with the rest of the year and Ashfield District Council.
Coun Paul Feeney (Con), lead member for the environment, said: “The reality is the summer weekly service was expensive and under-used.”
