Wildlife day at Pleasley Country Park

Pleasley Pit Nature Study group is holding its annual Wildlife Day on Sunday 24th May at the former Pleasley Colliery site. The event from 10am – 4.30pm is a day for the whole community to enjoy with nature events and groups from Derbyshire and Nottingshire in attendance at one of the best nature reserves in the area.

Coal mining began at Pleasley in 1873 and ended in 1983. The waste rock which was excavated from the mine was tipped on nearby fields, eventually the soil covered 150 acres.

Derbyshire County Council took over the site and the area was turned into a country park after the mine closed.
