A catastrophe in Hucknall was narrowly averted when strong winds blew down a 40ft tall tree across Watnall Road today (Tuesday).
One lane of traffic was closed after the tree was uprooted at just after 1pm, crushing a fence at the Nabbs Lane bike park.
Eye witness Martin Chilton, who took this picture, said: “Had the wind been blowing in the opposite direction, it could have been a very different story.
“It only needed some kids to be playing and for it to have fallen the other way and it could have been catastrophic. It could have been a lot worse.”
The county has been battered by strong winds on and off all day.
