Youngsters fail to wait for Hucknall bike track

Young cyclists have jumped the gun to get on a new Hucknall bike track.

The track is due to open in early or mid November but youngsters could not wait.

They broke through workmen’s fencing last weekend to use the facility, which is at Nabbs Lane park.

The track is being funded through Nottinghamshire County Council’s Local Initiative Improvement Scheme and section 106 housing developer contributions from Ashfield.

A Multi-Use Game Area has also been installed as part of a total investment of more than £200,000 in the site.

At a meeting of George Street Tenants and Residents’ Association this week, Ashfield and Notts county councillor John Wilmott (Lab) said that along with St George Amateur Boxing Club and a taekwondo school on Watnall Road, it was hoped the bike track would encourage youngsters to take an interest in sport and dissuade them from getting into trouble.

Ashfield Council leader Coun Chris Baron (Lab) said there had been a series of complaints in the west of Hucknall about young cyclists dashing in front of cars and the track would enable them to ride their bikes in a safe manner.
