Chancellor has robbed public-sector workers

ARE you a cleaner, carer, cook, a teaching assistant or someone in local government?

If you are, then the Chancellor, George Osborne, has just robbed you of £250. Here’s how.

It is a disgrace that Mr Osborne has tried to fool local-government workers and the public into believing he cares about the hardship of low pay — by announcing he will cushion the impact of the government`s pay freeze.

You see, Mr Osborne promised more than a year ago that the public-sector workers earning less than £22,000 would receive a £250 pay rise. But local-government workers have not received the money.

Council workers have suffered a 15% pay cut in three years and now earn a “shocking” 10% less, in real terms, than in 1996.
