Would our market be packed if car-parking fees were scrapped?

AS PART of the building trade, being a plumber, I often find myself in different locations.

Recently, I found myself working at a new business at Banks’ Yard in Bulwell.

For those who don’t know it, it is adjacent to Bulwell Market.

I was there nice and early and unloaded my van, as it is illegal to park on the market itself.

Setting up at the same time was a market, which I believe to have been some sort of flea market. I moved my vehicle and parked close to the police station.

Throughout the day, I moved back and forth and was amazed to see how many people were on the market and the surrounding streets.

Myself being from Hucknall, I was amazed at how many people were out and about throughout the day.

It brought to mind the current demise of Hucknall’s markets and I wondered whether Bulwell’s would have been so busy had people had to pay for parking in the town centre.

Fortunately, I didn’t have to pay for parking in Bulwell and wondered if Hucknall would have the same results if our car-parking fees were scrapped.
