Youth mayor election D-day

Three candidates are on the campaign trail as they prepare to battle it out to become Mansfield’s next youth mayor on Thursday.

Standing for election are Tom Richardson, of Manor Academy, Tanna Nita, of Samworth Church Academy, and Jade Booker, of Queen Elizabeth’s Academy.

Once elected, the youth mayor and the deputy youth mayor will represent young people in the District and take their views to the Mayor, members and officers of the council and other community organisations.

Mansfield’s mayor, Tony Egginton, said: “I believe very strongly that young people should have an input into what happens in the district. Being Youth Mayor is an excellent way of giving a voice to the views of the young people of Mansfield”.

“The youth mayor election gives thousands of young people the opportunity to vote and learn more about the importance of the democratic process, which is great preparation for adult life.”

The successful candidate will take over from outgoing youth mayor Jessica Wells of the Manor Academy.

The elections will take place in schools across the District and at Vision West Nottinghamshire College.
