From musicians putting on concerts to delivery services giving away free food, companies and individuals have been thanking NHS workers for their hard work during the coronavirus pandemic in a whole host of ways.

Qatar Airways is the latest business to express its thanks for healthcare professionals, now offering thousands of free tickets to be claimed and used when travel restrictions are eventually lifted.

Here’s how NHS staff can claim free Qatar Airway tickets.

What’s on offer?

Taking to its official Twitter account, Qatar Airways tweeted, “United in dedication, we share our gratitude. On occasion of International Nurses Day, from tomorrow (11 May) until 18 May we’re giving away 100,000 complimentary tickets return tickets to healthcare professions to anywhere on our network.”

Giving more detail on the Qatar website, it explains that healthcare professionals that successfully win a code will be able to book up to two complimentary Economy Class tickets on Qatar Airways operated flights - a ticket for themselves and one for a companion.

Tickets need to be booked before 26 November, with travel valid until 10 December 2020.

“Tickets will be fully flexible, with an unlimited number of destination or date changes allowed without any fees. Fare and surcharges will be waived on tickets, airport taxes apply,” the website explains.

Qatar Airways Group chief executive, Mr Akbar Al Baker, said, “There are no words or gestures that are enough to repay these brave men and women, but we hope that our small offer of a complimentary return flight on Qatar Airways will allow them to enjoy a well-deserved holiday, visit family and friends or explore a destination they have always dreamed of, as travel restrictions start to ease.”

Qatar Airways announced that it has begun a phased approach to rebuilding its network to an initial 52 destinations by the end of May, and 80 destinations by June.

Who is eligible to enter?

Healthcare professionals from every country in the world are eligible for tickets.

These are the healthcare professionals that are eligible to enter:

  • Doctor
  • Nurse
  • Medical practitioner
  • Paramedic
  • Pharmacist
  • Lab technician
  • Clinical researcher

How to claim

To sign up to claim the flights, all you need to do is go to the Qatar Airways website here.

You’ll need to enter your name, email address, profession, the hospital you work at plus your hospital ID number, your passport number and expiry date, date of birth, nationality and your country of employment as it appears on your employment ID.

After you’ve provided those details, you just need to submit.

Once you’ve submitted the form, the tickets are allocated on a first come, first serve basis. To ensure that professionals from all over the world have equal access to the tickets, each country will receive a daily allocation of tickets, depending on population size, staggered over a seven day period from 12 May to 18 May.

The website states that they are “currently experiencing an overwhelming volume on the website” so if you’re having difficulty loading the page, you should try again at a later point.
