With the long Easter weekend now under way, many will be looking forward to sharing chocolate gifts and cards to mark the celebration.

But if you are hoping for a delivery from family or friends over the bank holiday, you should expect some delays as Royal Mail won’t be operating under normal service.

Is there post on Good Friday?

Royal Mail will not be making any collections or deliveries on Good Friday (10 Apr) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

In Scotland, collections and deliveries will operate as normal.

Normal postal service will resume across the whole of the UK on Easter Saturday (11 Apr).

Is there any post on Easter Sunday?

There won’t be any letters or parcels arriving on Easter Sunday (12 Apr) in any part of the UK.

Similarly, no collections or deliveries will be made the following day on Easter Monday (13 Apr) in Scotland, England, Wales, or Northern Ireland.

The postal service will return to normal from Tuesday 13 April.

Royal Mail said: “We deliver and collect your mail on most days of the year, including Saturdays.

“However, we don’t usually deliver or collect on bank and public holidays.”

Will post offices be open?

As Royal Mail will not be making any collections or deliveries in most parts of the UK on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, many post offices will be closed.

To check the opening times of your local branch, use the Post Office branch finder.

What about customer service points?

From Monday 6 April, Royal Mail changed the opening times of its Customer Service Points in its local delivery offices, as part of a move to protect the health and safety of its staff from the general public.

All of its largest locations are now open between 7am until 11am, while all other Customer Service Points are open between 7am and 9am.

All locations will be closed on Wednesday and Sunday.

Customers have been urged to only visit Customer Service Points where absolutely necessary, and should otherwise stay at home and avoid non-essential journeys.

Royal Mail said: “Despite our best endeavours, it is likely that some areas of the country will experience a reduction in service levels due to coronavirus-related absences at their local mail centre or delivery office.

“We will continue to actively monitor this rapidly evolving crisis. We will keep talking to you.

“And, we will continue to focus on the delivery of our two priorities: i) safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our people and the communities we serve; and ii) delivering as comprehensive a service as possible at all times.”
