Storm brewing as Thunder McCormack prepares for debut fight

Jack (23) fights Nuneaton’s Kristian Laight on a Clifton Mitchell promoted show on 28th September at the Hermitage Leisure Centre in Whitwick, Leicester.

Also soon making their professional boxing debuts are Mansfield’s Joe Brailsford (29) and former amateur star Connaire Seery (18).

Jack, who trains at Scott’s gym on Columbia Street in Huthwaite and with former British cruiserweight champion Shane McPhilbin, said: “I boxed amateur and unlicensed but always wanted to turn professional and I’m loving every minute of it.

“I’m learning new things all the time and although I have ambitions in this sport I respect each opponent and my focus is firmly on my first fight.”

Scott said he was delighted to capture the signature of Bestwood’s Connaire, who had around 60 bouts in the headguard and vest and represented England. Several managers were interested in signing skilful Connaire but, boxing under the name Sugar Shayy Seery, he makes his debut on 5th October in Derby.

Connaire added: “I’ve been boxing since I was 11 and wanted to turn pro since I was 15- now my dream’s finally came true.

“My uncle gave me the nickname ‘Sugar Shayy’ when I was watching an old Sugar Ray Leonard fight and it just stuck! I want to use boxing to get my family the best life. My dad Steve, who trains me, is my inspiration.”

Former Mansfield ABC boxer Joe will soon begin to travel the winding roads of the UK, stepping into the ‘away’ corner of the ring but he said even though he’ll be a ‘journeyman’ boxer he’s determined to make a good impression.

Joe said: “It feels really good to now be a professional.

“I’m going down the journeyman route so I’ll have a lot of fights against home crowd favourites and top prospects at venues all over the country, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Meanwhile, Nottingham’s Nathan Kirk (25), also managed by Scott, faces Manchester’s Paul Haines on the Leicester bill.

Nathan said: “In my first fight I put myself under too much pressure and lost by one point, but I won my second and can’t wait to fight on 28th September.”

Scott, who is also signing hard-hitting Nottingham fighter Corey Jackson, recently arranged for the boxers to spar against top professionals Sam Eggington and Fergus Taylor, and with world champion K-1 Global fighter Chad Sugden.
