British Championship win for water polo ladies

Hucknall Ladies claimed another win in Phase One of the British Water Polo Championship, finishing sixth to qualify for the British Championship .

Their next target, however, are the Championship 1 playoffs as they seek to retain their Division One status.

In the first game of the series in Lancaster against Coventry City, Hucknall struggled to match the pace of the Super 5 team and lost 22-6. Goals came from Mia Lovell,Katelyn Fairchild 2, Giorgia Bosworth, Charlene Piquard and Eda Colliver.

Hucknall then lost 28-8 to Liverpool Lizards. Anna Lord 2, Fairchild 2, Colliver, Bosworth, Rachael Tipton and India Wilkinson scored.

In the third game of the weekend Hucknall’s defence began to reassert itself and Manchester were restricted to 11 goals, but Hucknall only replied through Fairchild 2 and Colliver.

The second weekend, in Liverpool, saw matches against Leeds and Sheffield. Hucknall beat Leeds 11-6 after getting off to a positive start with two goals in the first quarter from Julie Swieca and a clean sheet from goalie Naya Patel.

Swieca added another three, Fairchild five and Colliver also scored.

The second game against Sheffield was close, 3-3 after the first quarter and 6-6 after the second. Helen Reader, Colliver and Wilkinson, Fairchild 2 and Lord scored. But Sheffield won 15-12.

In the final weekend in Bolton, Hucknall lost 18-4 to London Otter and 14-9 to Caledonia.
