Cash boost Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust presented at Nottingham Racecourse

The Trust, set up by Sir Peter after he retired as BBC TV’s racing commentator in 1997, has raised more than £4 million for equine welfare good causes.

Sir Peter, known as ‘The Voice of Racing’, passed away at the age of 97 in July and a memorial service was held in London this week.

The first race – which was divided into two contests because there were so many runners – at Nottingham Racecourse on Wednesday was run in his name.

From next year, the race will be run in tribute to the Investec Derby winner Golden Horn who won the corresponding race in 2014.

James Knox, General Manager, Nottingham Racecourse, said: “We are immensely privileged that Sir Peter, several weeks before he passed away peacefully in the summer, agreed that a race could be named in his honour at Nottingham Racecourse.

“We are also very grateful to 32Red for their generous donation to the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust.”
