The left-hander is confident progress has been made despite Notts going through the whole summer without a Championship win.

The Trent Bridge side has not won in the four-day game since beating Essex in June 2018.

“The fans will see 2020 in four day cricket as another year without a win,” he said. “For the players it was more than that, it was us moving in the right direction.

“We dominated every game but we just couldn’t get over the finishing line. I think moving forward we are in a far better position than last year.

“As soon as we get the first win then hopefully we can be the players to move the club forward in that format.”

Duckett, who was crowned Notts player-of-the-year, believes team spirit and bonding has been key to the improvement.

“We were a new side this year, we struggled last year and it didn't go to plan,” he added.

“Not a lot changed this year. The group spoke through the winter about building as a team and we made extra effort to get to know each other.

“It's really important you trust those around you and want to be successful for the guys with you on the pitch.

“The only motivation you’ve got without fans in the ground is the boys around you and that's why it was so good this year.”
