Dudleston is umpires’ guest

Barry Dudleston, the former Leicestershire opening batsman and ex Test Match and First class umpire is the guest of the Bassetlaw Umpires Association on Saturday at the Cuckney Cricket Centre at 2.30pm.

Barry made his first class debut for Leicestershire in 1966 and was awarded his County Cap three years later.

He scored 14,747 first class runs at an average of 32.48 including 32 centuries and 64 fifties.

He also took 234 catches and added seven stumpings when deputising as a wicket-keeper. He had a career best highest score of 202 against Derbyshire in 1979.

In addition to this Barry scored 4480 one day runs with a highest score of 152 against Surrey in 1972 at an average of 25.74, before joining the first class umpires list in 1984.

He umpired two test matches in 1991 and 1992 and four one day internationals and has also acted as third umpire in international cricket.

Barry umpired the last Benson & Hedges Cup Final in 2002 along, with John Hampshire.

Thirty years previous to this he helped Leicester beat Yorkshire (including John Hampshire) in the first Benson & Hedges final in 1972.
