Matthew Carter signs two year deal with Nottinghamshire

The 19-year-old off-spinner took debut match figures of ten for 195 in the LV= County Championship fixture against Somerset in June, as well as catching the eye with a series of standout performances in second eleven cricket.

He was recently selected as a net bowler for the England Performance Programme in the United Arab Emirates this winter, one of seven spinners selected from within county cricket to make the trip.

Carter has garnered senior experience in minor counties cricket with Lincolnshire, debuting in 2013 and going on to make 25 appearances.

“He has the potential to be a very special bowler for Nottinghamshire, so we have to manage his development carefully and be patient with him,” said Director of Cricket Mick Newell.

“He showed us a bit of what he could do during the pre-season tour in Barbados, then that performance on debut against Somerset was obviously remarkable.

“It showed what he’s capable of and to have a talented young spin bowler coming through is exciting for the Club.

“Getting performances like that consistently will take some time and it’s pleasing that he’s committed to spending the next two years learning his game here at Notts.”
