Nottinghamshire edge nearer to Warwickshire win

Nottinghamshire secured four of the wickets they need if they are to defeat Warwickshire on the final day of their LV= County Championship match at Trent Bridge.

Having been forced to follow-on, the visitors reached lunch on 116 for four, still 224 runs away from making the home side bat again.

William Porterfield began the day with an unbeaten 23 to his name and he batted resolutely throughout the morning to reach the interval on 48 not out, his highest Championship score of the season.

Porterfield lost his opening partner, Ian Westwood, for 19 during the early exchanges as Jake Ball found the outside edge and Chris Read did the rest.

The same combination then accounted for Laurie Evans, who made 12, although the catch was taken down the leg side after a hefty deflection.

Jonathan Trott fell lbw for the second time in the match, for 22, with Brett Hutton then striking for the second time as Sam Hain chipped into the waiting hands of Luke Wood at short midwicket.
